Message With step 0.5 being develop a plan :-)

Well, ain’t nothing gonna be happenin to this thing for a while, at least until it warms up enough for me to move my car to the garage where I work on it. And before that can happen, I need to clean out the garage so I can fit the car. Regardless, I figured I’d post at least some of the progress I’ve made on this lil project.

Problem: My car came with meth injection (this is where Greg D would end the post :-) ), and I wanted to add a Selin Dual MAF set up. As you can see below, there simply isn’t room for it with the tank there:

So I needed to relocate the tank to allow the dual filters and pump to all fit.

I decided on the OEM washer tank for a few reasons. First being the space is already being used and I don’t need to source a new tank and fit it somewhere. The second is retention of an on-dash fluid level light. Nixit had mentioned that he’s been successful in drilling and sealing the tank, but I didn’t want to chance it. I plan on eliminating my rear wiper whenever I do body work next, but for the time being I can simply eliminate the washer nozzle. Thanks to ArubaDave for a great fitting little product, works perfectly to eliminate the nozzle.

First step was to determine which pump was for the front and which was for the rear. After doing so, I eliminated the pump for the rear and began trying to figure out how to go from the tank to the hose. Tank exit port is about 0.5” OD, more like 0.55” but not quite 5/8”. The ID of the hose I’m using to supply the meth pump is 3/8”. I found an adapter at West Marine, but it was a straight adapter, and since the tank outlet faces the back and side of the car, I was going to need to do some finagling. The polyethelyne hose I selected for running to the front of the car doesn’t have a great bend radius; it’s something like a foot. I needed to turn a corner in about 6”. Solution:

Then installed onto the tank. I used one additional OEM rubber coupler from my old tank. I’m not sure if these parts are available from Nissan or aftermarket, but they’re required to do it the way I have here. I used nylon elbows, 5/8” barbed ends.

It fits!!

Running the rubber hose out:

Spliced and attached to the polyethelyne hose which will run to the front:

The next few shots are of the hose routing. Basically down the driver side, in the cavity below the door sill panel:

With a lil vac hose split over the metal edge to prevent any rubbing through:

Out this hole:

Like so:

Under the fender liner and out to the front end:

So now all I need to do is create a mount for the pump, valve and filter, hook up the pump and attach the hoses back to the hardpipes. Should be able to do that on a warm Saturday, once I get the car backed into the garage.
